'Soundclash' is an initiative of the music board of the Australia Council and is open to individuals and groups engaged in projects involving the creation and performance of experimental, creative and innovative contemporary popular music. In the past ten years, the field of contemporary popular music (pop, rock, hip hop, electronic dance music and other, related modern music forms) has become increasingly hybrid, challenging the boundaries of the form itself. 'Soundclash' seeks to address these developments by supporting contemporary popular music that takes risks and demonstrates a strong commitment to experimentation. The initiative aims to support experimental, creative and innovative music projects across all styles of contemporary popular music. "Reconstituted" is the third Apell album and sounds like the groovier half of Amon Tobin sampling George Clinton with a jazzy electric bass. The album features a drum n bass version of Neil Young's "Don't Let it Bring You Down" and a chill out reworking of George Harrison's overlooked gem "Long, Long, Long" from The Beatles White Album. Another album highlight is the track "Dubya" featuring lyrics inspired by inane quotes from President George W Bush's speeches and his life story.

The Sunday Fair incorporates Zine Fair, Independent Music Labels Fair, Small Press and Independent Publishing Fair and the Makers Market. The Fair is part of This Is Not Art, an annual festival of independent, emerging & experimental arts & media.

The Fair will be held on Sunday 30th September between 12 and 6 under the trees of Newcastle's Civic Park. If you trade in zines, independent publications, records, CDs, art wearables, clothes, jewellery, badges, patches, posters, or anything funky cool and DIY and you want to share your work with thousands of other artists, creators, makers and interesting folk from across the country then the Makers Market

Mars Hill Cafe in Parramatta will be organising and hosting a local music competition that will allow up and coming and established local music acts to perform several acts each in the popular Church Street cafe. They will compete for the chance to record a 3-track EP recording session with 2 tracks from the competition and a third recorded studio style in the performance space. Supported by a grant recently awarded to Mars Hill Cafe by the Parramatta City Council, the 10 best acts from the competition will be recorded and released on a compilation album later in the year.

Local Musicians (from any suburbs covered by Parramatta Council) are encouraged to apply. Styles included will be: Singer/Songwriters, Folk, Acoustic Rock, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Acoustic and Country. Applications for the competition will be taken throughout August and single-song auditions will be held on the 25th of August. Each artist chosen for the competition will perform 3 songs each for the final competition on the 23rd of September. Mars Hill Cafe is a popular Parramatta music and arts venue, located at 331 Church Street.
