Local Musicians (from any suburbs covered by Parramatta Council) are encouraged to apply. Styles included will be: Singer/Songwriters, Folk, Acoustic Rock, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Acoustic and Country. Applications for the competition will be taken throughout August and single-song auditions will be held on the 25th of August. Each artist chosen for the competition will perform 3 songs each for the final competition on the 23rd of September. A fan of all that is dark, twisted, and psychedelic. Cyberwlf constantly seeks out the latest and most innovative in dark psychedelic night music, always looking to take his sound to the next level and push new boundaries. From regular party goer turn DJ/Promoter/Organiser/Radio show host, Cyberwlf has been listening to electronic music since the late 80s. Natural progression lead him to discovering Goa-trance and then later on PsyTrance as well. Being a fan of Industrial, Metal, and Alternative music, Dark Psychedelic Trance became an instant love for him, and a passion he has spent many years exploring.
Any favourite artists, influential DJs or must-have labels?:
Nabi Records, who I am the Australasian representitive for! A label which has been pushing the edges of the dark psychedelic trance genre in recent years now. Also worth mentioning is the Australian artist Melbourne, Pondscum.
How did you become interested or involved in writing music / DJing / your project?:
I actually didn't want to DJ, and had originally wanted to start an electro-industrial band. The guitar and keyboard needed to even get this started never happened, and through just being a general music fanatic, I ended up being offered and took up my own show on the Internet Radio station PulseRadio.net. How would you describe your style of writing music / musical / artistic policy?:
One where keeping the music fresh, interesting, and challenging are key factors. Always seeking new sounds to explore, with a major orientation towards dark, twisted, and psychedelic trance music.

Could mention many names, but it wouldn't change what I am about.
What are your thoughts on the Australian music community?:
Even though it allows some underground genres room to grow, the more commercial and bland genres have become more and more popular, and it kills musical innovation, as dance music shifts more towards being pop music. Underground styles of music have had their venues pulled from under them so vendors could use the venues for more commercially viable genres. I can only hope this changes.
What are your thoughts on the internet & music / filesharing / DRM etc?:
DRM is a flawed system, it more often than not shows an ineptitude of the people who create these standards to understand the practical and legitimate uses of the technology. Filesharing can be as good as it can be bad, underground artists can hit the big time through their music being illegally traded, but it's no good when hard working artists are constantly robbed of their earnings due to people being too tightass to spend a couple of dollars on music they obviously get a lot of value out of.
What excites you now?:
New and interesting music, solid outdoor parties with quality production.
Where can we see or listen to you playing / your project?:
Most outdoor psy-trance parties around Sydney/Newcastle in Australia.
Which directions do you think your style of music / project will take in the future?:
I hope to take on equally twisted/psychedelic yet uplifting morning sounds, as well as find a solid transition sound. Q01. How did you become interested or involved in writing music / DJing?:
I've always been interested in music. I think I had three piano lessons and that was enough, I hated it! I much preferred experimenting on my own with piano. My first experience with synths was with a Roland JX3P and an old analogue mono synth. The sounds amazed me, I would just sit and press buttons and twiddle knobs for hours. I've had a passion for computers since my introduction to them when I was about 10, so it was kind of natural to merge music and computing together.
Q02. How would you describe your style of writing music / musical policy?:
I always start an idea with beats. Getting those right by themselves is really important to me, beats have to be able to work on their own. I'll play with different patterns and juggle hits around until all they all sit well with each other. Using mathematical rules on beats can yield interesting results, experimentation with hit placement and velocity creates interesting rhythms that can kind of roll over each other.
Q03. Any favourite artists, influential DJs or must-have labels?:
It's difficult to pin one person down and and say 'They're my favourite artist'. I like most of the Reprazent stuff, Guidance Records, Wicked Beats Sound System, Luke Slater, Freq Nasty, LTJ Bukem, Blueboy, Photek, Thievery Corporation, Curtis Mayfield among heaps of others.
Q04. Want to name-drop any other peoples' names???:
Really helpful people musically? Lo-Key Fu and Jase From Outta Space - two good friends of mine. Paul Gamblin who dj's here in Perth has always been supportive, too. Big respect to him. Also Audio Cephlon, Smoulder, B-Jam, Sardi, Krank, Greg Packer, Echoic, Static, The Sirius Project, Elemental - all quality Perth producers as well as everyone else too numerous to mention.
Q05. Where can we see or listen to you playing?:
Every now and then I'll do a live set somewhere, but not that often. My most recent tracks can be heard or downloaded from www.mp3.com/scope1 which is my website. I get rotation on RTR-FM, a Perth community radio station which supports underground music.
Q06. What excites you now?:
Slower, clean cut breakbeat made from fresh, tight drum sounds and quite minimal in content. I don't know what it's called but it's really focused. Literally every sound has kind of like a function, there's nothing extraneous except for the occasional vocal going into a breakdown.
Q08. Which directions do you think your style of music will take in the future?:
The one thing that will be certain about dance music is that it will always be made for the dancefloor. It seems to be mostly accidents that end up spawning new sounds and genres, which is exciting because it means it can't be predicted. Who can predict the result of an accident? The constant flow of new equipment and technology will I think continue to play a part in how and what is made. Element IF? Zen Paradox), Voiteck, Honeysmack, Digital Primate, Little Nobody, Frontside, Artificial, Isnod, Son Of Zev, TR-Storm, FSOM, Guyver 3, Soulenoid, Blimp, Black Lung, TDM, Josh Abrahams, DJ Venom, and Q-Kontrol. IF? has also inducted like-minded experimental electronic boffins from Sydney like Sub Bass Snarl, 5000 Fingers Of Dr. T, Kid Calmdown, Pocket, and Nick Littlemore (Pnau).
