site update

site undergoing upgrades

aliak.com is being upgraded this week. some links won't work until the upgrade is complete as I've disabled some modules. the 'look & feel' of the site is currently using a default template which will also be upgraded. the RSS / XML feeds should still be working. thanks for your patience

status:
11/02/2008 - the site is now running drupal 5.0. tomorrow night I'll upgrade to the most recent drupal 5. some of the modules have been reinstalled but you may see some errors until the upgrade is complete.

19/02/2008 - the site is now running drupal 5.1. only a few patches to go ...

14/03/2008 - the site is now running drupal 5.7

15/03/2008 - the site is now running drupal 6.1
there seems to be an issue with page caching in firefox on windows (to reload the page - press Ctrl -Shift-Delete or Tools menu - clear private data, then reload the page)
IE on windows seems ok
also posting articles from a mac seems broken! :(

site update - events & incoming news feeds removed due to bandwidth limitations

25/10/2007 update : due to a problem with event listings module and incoming news aggregator, I've removed these modules until I can resolve the issue. in the meantime, try the google calendar events or try the AliaK filter Google Reader for shared news items / newsfeeds

here's a list of the feed urls the site aggregator used to check. I'll eventually add these to google reader ...

previous upgrades:

Click on 'create new account' to register an account on the site, then login to post your news.

Once logged in, click on the 'create content' - 'blog entry' to create an article in your personal blog.

Your blog entries are initially moderated (to help lessen spam), so they may not appear on the homepage instantly, but as soon as it has been approved your blog entry will appear on your own blog page and it may also appear on the home page. the RSS icon on your blog page is the url of your blog's rss feed.

Click on 'create content' - 'event' to create an event in the calendar. These articles generally won't appear on the home page, but they are accessible via the Event Calendar, and Recent Posts links if posted recently.

Select appropriate categories when posting your articles. Take a look at the Category and Location lists on the right hand side menu bar for examples. You can also create your own new category / tag by typing it in on the category free text field. Some of the menus are sorted by category so if you select appropriate tags, your articles can appear in multiple sections of the site (which means people find them via multiple paths).

The RSS / ATOM / XML feeds are used most often on the site - the newsfeeds are sent to other sites for redistribution of content. This is another good reason to use appropriate categories when posting your articles, because along with the newsfeed for the whole site and each blog, each category has it's own feed which may be sent to specific niche sites dedicated to that particular category.

Thanks for your contributions - it helps to spread the load as I don't often get as many articles posted as I would like to.

One of the aims of the site is to store some of the ephermeral information from this period of time in relation to Australian arts and electronic music & hip hop projects & artists. another aim is to list some of the amazingly creative music & arts artists in this community. even if in just a small way. your posts help this goal as well as being an extra outlet for promotion to people who might be interested in supporting your work and projects.

The site is being archived by the National Australia Library PANDORA project. It is one snapshot of events, projects, artists etc of this period of time. Who knows who might come across your article / promo in the future whilst searching for Australian music & arts projects & artists from the early part of this century. Archive.org has also captured older versions of the site on the wayback machine (along with most internet sites!).

the blogs area are available for you to post as you wish (within reason - no spam or porn please!).

thanks for your support!

any questions please contact me using one of the contact methods in the left hand menus.
