Bernard Parmegiani is a seminal figure in the history
of electronic music. He is an inspiration to many
contemporary electronic musicians including Autechre
who recently featured him in their All Tomorrows Parties
festival. He has been an influence on any number of
other musicians who have explored his music for sampling
and manipulation over the last five years.

Parmegiani, along with Pierre Schaefer, Pierre Henry,
Luc Ferrari and Francois Bayle pioneered Musique Concrete,
a form of music which used samples of recorded sound to
create abstract music through manipulation of the source
in the 1940s and 1950s. These figures where also behind
the development of acousmatic music. This music immerses
the listener in sound, surrounding them in electronic
concrete audio.

This is the first time Parmegiani has performed in Sydney
and will be an event not to be missed especially those with
an interest in historic electronic music and the ideas
which shaped current electronica and experimental music
practices.

Bernard Parmegiani will perform four key works dating from
1965 to 2001 while in Sydney:

Rouge-mort 16' 52 (1987)
Violostries 16' 40 (1965)
Present compose 23' 50 (1991)
La Memoire des sons 24' 27(2001)
