Battle of the Year Australia 2003 breakdancing finals

SONY BACKS BOTY AUST 2003 AS IT KEEPS GETTING BIGGER

BATTLE OF THE YEAR AUSTRALIA is pleased to announce the addition of a
SECOND breakdance tournament, to be held at the BOTY AUST event on August
9.
Another big development, Sony NetMD Walkman has signed up as a key
presenting sponsor of the event.

With the addition of the new 1 on 1 competition to the day's schedule, the
event will now clock in at 7 hours of intense breakdance competition, guest
international demos and performances by Aussie Hip hop and Funk artists.

The 1 on 1 competition will see 16 individuals compete in a knock out
format. The winner of this competition will be flown to New Zealand to
represent Australia at
"Bodyrock 2004" in January. "Bodyrock" is New Zealand's biggest
breakdancing event, and our representative will take on NZ's top ranked
bboy in a dance battle in front of a guaranteed bumper crowd.

Up to 4000 spectators of all ages are expected to attend the Battle Of The
Year Australia event, which will be held at the State Sports Centre in
Sydney. The 2002 event sold out with 1000 spectators, days before the event
last August, reflective of the groundswell in public interest in the
danceform.

MISTERY, MC from Australian Hip hop outfit Brethren, will be hosting the
event along side one of Australia's most talent female Hip hop performers,
MAYA JUPITER. MC Mistery manages the Marrickville Youth Centre breakdance
training night, and has long been involved in educating youth through
positive aspects of Hip hop.

MC WISDM from Brethren will join Mistery to perform a track from their
highly anticipated next album, as will Maya, who's solo album is due out
late July. Maya also hosts SBS's Alchemy Radio and Channel V's Soul
Kitchen, and is tipped to become a highly recognized face in the Australian
music scene in coming months.

DJs NAIKI, NICK TOTH and MR TSANG have been locked in to provide the block
rockin' beats for the 6 hour event. DJ NICK TOTH is also currently
producing the Battle Of The Year 2003 Annual - the first BOTY AUST
Soundtrack due out on sale August 4.

Also featuring on the night, will be a beatbox showcase by MC TOM THUMB ,
one of Australia's most talented and recognized vocal percussionists.
'Beatboxing' involves the MC making percussion, rhythm and melody lines
completing with their mouths and a microphone, and is considered a Hip hop
artform all of it's own.

Also on the night, five piece funk outfit, CROPPER, will provide live old
school tunes for the bboy circles.

Other huge highlights of the event is BBOY CRUMBS, member of the famous
Style Elements Crew, and international judge and performer. He is
performing exclusively at BOTY AUST, before quickly returning to the US to
resume his tour dancing with Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera's
"Justified & Stripped" National Tour.

Also confirmed, BBOYS KATSU and TAKASHI will be making there way from Japan
to judge the competition and demo at the event. Katsu was a judge at BOTY
AUST 2002, but Takashi will be appearing here in Australia for the first
time. Takashi is a member of Tribal Team Japan, and also Kamikaze Crew, and
is noted for extraordinary powermoves and amazing body strength

THOMAS HERGENROETHER, originator for the Battle Of The Year series, is the
final guest judge on the star panel. The huge success of last year's
Australian event has prompted Thomas to come to Australia himself this year
to check out the exploding scene.

Kim Carter, Rockstar Management;
"BOTY AUST is a celebration of all that is positive about hip hop. Breaking
in particular, is a danceform that demands fitness, dedication, and clean
living."

BATTLE OF THE YEAR is a worldwide phenomenon, featuring a series of 13
qualifying events around the globe before the world's best breakdance crews
come together for an international final in Germany each October. The
Australian winning crew will be flown to Germany as their major prize.

The move to state of the art Olympic facilities is reflective of the need
for more spectator room and to create a more interactive space for everyone
who comes to the event. All are welcome, with tiered seating making the
event both underage and family friendly.
