Drawing from the critically acclaimed productions Unleashed, Those with Lucifer, and most recently Zen Zen Zo's international collaborations with American band The Dresden Dolls, Zeitgeist is a collection of raw and provocative pieces that reflect "the spirit (Geist) of our times (Zeit)". This groundbreaking work asks the question, how are we as human beings interacting with ourselves, each other, and the earth at the turn of the new Millennium? The answer is at times heart-breaking, at others humorous, but ultimately hopeful, as the dancers weave together physical theatre, poetic ritual, burlesque, camp, and comedy in Zen Zen Zo’s hallmark style.

What past critics had to say about Unleashed, Those with Lucifer and The Dresden Dolls shows:

"There seems to be a distinct visceral contact between performers and audience, which is like no ther form of theatre I have expirienced. This work was a maelstrom of flesh and spirit, with a keen tension sustained between the poignant and playful, all moving inexorably towards the heart-breaking climax. I couldn't sleep that night..."

"This highly erotic and nightmarish fantasy is exactly what you'd imagine David Lynch and Trent Reznor to come up with over coffee an cake."

"Here we see the perfection of the naked human body pushed to the limits of ecstasy and pain, a rare opportunity to experience a flawless embodiment of wit and passion."

"This show sets out to smash boundaries and succeseds with intelligence, creativity and dark originality. What they have achieved is edgy, eerie, sometimes riotously funny and often stunning."

THE ENNEAGRAM WEEKEND WORKSHOP Sat 8 – Sun 9 March
WISDOM & COMPASSION WEEKEND WORKSHOP Sat 15 – Sun 16 March
In 2004, 2006 and 2007, Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre hosted exciting weekend workshops with Lawrence Graziose from the USA, a renowned teacher of The Enneagram and of the Zen Buddist/Taoist View of Human Nature. We are pleased to welcome him back in 2008 and he has suggested that this may be his last visit to Australia for a while due to exciting opportunities available to him in the USA…so this may be your last chance!
THE ENNEAGRAM WEEKEND WORKSHOP Sat 8 – Sun 9 March (10AM – 5PM)
The Enneagram is an ancient psychological model which analyses personality types, ego structures and behaviours. It will look at nine ego-fixations which can create suffering in our daily lives and it offers ‘antidotes’ which can counteract the tendency to follow these ego-habits. It proves to be very useful for our work as actors investigating human nature and for our own personal development.
WISDOM & COMPASSION WEEKEND WORKSHOP Sat 15 – Sun 16 March (10AM – 5PM)
The section on wisdom will focus on spiritual practices that are designed to create an open and expanded mind. The section on Compassion will focus on practices that are designed to open the heart centre to the ‘service of others’. Both sets of practices help us to find true happiness in our lives.
The 2008 Sydney Shakespeare Festival kicks off in January with Much Ado About Nothing, a boisterous celebration of love as well as a sobering examination of misinterpretation, dishonesty and deception. The festival is on at 8pm every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 January until 17 February 2008 in Bicentennial Park, Glebe Foreshore. The festival is FREE for children 12 years and under, people with disabilities and people aged 65 years and over. For the first two weeks of the festival only, for every ticket purchased, the second ticket is FREE. 10% of every ticket sold throughout the festival will be donated to the Millennium Foundation for HIV Research.

Much Ado About Nothing is loaded with mismatched lovers, squabbling brothers, comic constables and bawdy humor. Young lovers Hero and Claudio are to be married in a week. To pass the time they conspire with Don Pedro, Prince of Aragon, to set a 'lovers’ trap' for Benedick, a self-confessed 'tyrant to women', and the independent and forthright Beatrice, his favourite sparring partner. Meanwhile, Don Pedro's half-brother, the devious Don John, conspires to break up the wedding. Rapier wit and cutting observation; lies, laughter and love with a stiff dose of betrayal. Such is the emotional arsenal deployed for Shakespeare's strategic guide to the war between the sexes.

Sponsored by the City of Sydney council, Sydney Shakespeare Festival is a newly formed not-for-profit annual outdoor festival. "Outdoor theatre is the most magical, accessible and historical performance style," said David Jeffrey, co-founder of the festival. "Relaxing under the stars, enjoying a picnic and the magic of Shakespeare, all while taking in the spectacular views from the park of Sydney Harbour, the Anzac Bridge and the Sydney City skyline, is a great way to spend a summer evening."

Sydney Shakespeare Festival proudly supports the Millennium Foundation and will donate 10% of every ticket sold to HIV Research. "We are thrilled to be associated with Sydney Shakespeare Festival," said Kylie Strudwick, Marketing Manager, The Millennium Foundation. "Even though 39.5 million people across the globe have the virus, HIV research does not receive the fund raising attention and awareness it deserves."

The annual Sydney Shakespeare Festival will feature the works of William Shakespeare and in time will include other contemporary classics. "Shakespeare's plays have captured the imagination of millions of people throughout the world for over 400 years and are as exciting and provocative now as the day they were written," noted Julie Baz, Artistic Director and co-founder of the festival.

The 2008 Sydney Shakespeare Festival is on at 8pm (front of house opens at 7pm) every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from Friday 11 January until Sunday 17 February in Bicentennial Park, Glebe Foreshore.
