Sydney band Super Massive were awarded "Best Alternative Artist" at the 2007 MusicOz Award last week at the Enmore Thetre, for their creative and evocative synth/rock song "Fists": An impressive achievement considering that the band has not yet released a single CD, nor had a scrap of airplay.
Super Massive is the creative partnership of singer/writer Malina Hamilton-Smith and drummer/composer Glenn Abbott, best known for his work with popular Australian band Machine Gun Fellatio.
The two found a mutual interest in aiming to create the perfect symbiosis of multi-layered synthscapes and the visceral impact of a full rock band.
Inspired in equal measures by funk, pop song structures, rock, french electro, tribal rhythms and the theatrics of glam rock, Super Massive's sound is like a spectacular mirrorball that reflects many tiny pieces of influence, from Burt Bacharach to Alice Cooper to Bessie Smith and Goldfrapp via Tower Of Power, AC/DC and Basement Jaxx, yet with a sound entirely its own.
Joined by electric bass genius John D Young (Chuck Berry, Marcia Hines, Vanda & Young) and talented young guitarist Marc Malouf, the band delivers a powerful and entertaining live show.
Super Massive's debut EP, which includes the award-winning track "Fists", is due for release in January, with an east coast tour slated for late Jan. You can also catch the band at Peats Ridge Festival on Dec 29th.

Jaime Olsen (REPHRASE from Sydney) is hitting Melbourne on Saturday 24th November and he is bringing his 100% LIVE show!!
Rephrase is on the road in 2007 to celebrate release of his latest and greatest album “Little Victories” plus upcoming remix compilation. After hearing the cry of excited Melbourne breakers; he’s decided to pack up his sax and sequencers and synths to bring us his 100% live show. He’ll be up on the big stage at Roxanne Parlour for one night only on Saturday 24th November.
Expect a nite of hip hop, breaks, funk, house, good people, fun times & crazy dancing!!

Sydney's producer/musician Jamie Olsen is hitting Melbourne for the release of his new Rephrase album "Little Victories" and upcoming double remix CD. This home-grown talent is beating new life into our local breaks scene, attracting worldwide support from artists like Fort Knox Five, AGFA, Mo Horizons, Kraak n Smaak, Ed Royal & A Skills. His music has been heard across radio and television with plays of "Since 1939" heard on Big Brother, Home & Away and he’s made original music for the World Cup. He brings a body-movin DJ style that is the perfect mix of hip hop, breaks, funk & house… Rephrase puts the fun back into funky breaks!!
2001 saw Jaime form Sydney breaks duo Db Chills, who signed to Stephen Mallinder’s label Offworld Sounds. They became DMA nominees in 2002 for their debut album “Broke Sound” and a new Db Chills project is currently in the works. In 2003 the Rephrase sound was born and first solo album “Beat Coaster” received critical acclaim from artists including John Stapleton (Dope On Plastic), Giles Peterson and Miguel Migs. Recent times have seen the Rephrase style spread across the globe with Jaime releasing original tracks and remixes on Freestyle Records, Beatphreak’s Jack To Phono, AGFA’s Funk Weapons, Innvision Records but to name a few… don’t miss this home-grown funk phenomenon.

Super Massive build on their brilliant recent show at The Supper Club, Will & Toby’s Taylor Square, with a return to old fav The Hopetoun Hotel on Friday 29th June, to support The Chronics for the launch of their debut album “Switch Me On”.
The Chronics write a catchy tune, and first single “On Account Of My Lover” has already been added to high rotation on Fbi.
Super Massive are also purveyors of catchy tunes, delivered in a heady brew of tasty playing, exhilarating grooves, gorgeous creative layers of synth sounds, and loads of rock-fuelled stage presence.
