P I M M O N
Pimmon (aka Paul Gough) is recognised internationally as one of a handful of new artists pushing the boundaries of music and digital composition. Gough's music is a combination of pop, minimal composition, exotic drones and field recordings, which creates a dense, emotive, compelling and challenging listening experience. Refraction will see Pimmon collaborate with the Dappler Effect (aka Andrew Wholley) to evoke stunning visuals and epic reverberations.

Andrew Wholley is a Sydney based filmmaker who began taking an interest in cinematography in the mid nineties, shooting many short films. In 2007 he completed his debut feature film Left Ear, which premiered that year at The Melbourne Underground Film Festival [MUFF]. It was awarded The Special Jury Prize, Best Actor [Lech Mackiewicz] and Best Screenplay. It went on to screen in 2008/9 at Raindance (London), Indie Lisboa (Portugal), ToffiFest (Poland) and Lausanne Underground (Switzerland).

N I C K W I S H A R T
The story of Nick's journey into toy based sound and rock is incredible. Nick's parents were huge fans of the cult director Werner Herzog. Being born soon after Herzog's masterpiece The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser, Nick was kept in a cellar until the age of 17 with no outside human contact. Through this period of isolation Nick developed hyper-sensitive hearing and at the age of 17 was taken to a toy store and released into the world. This event was to have profound affect on Nick and he has toy obsessed from that day on...

M A I L E R D A E M O N
Bouncing like an overfull web mail account, established industry heavyweight Mailer Daemon draws from a rich collection of scenes and genres to dominate the dance floors and radio waves alike. While his Midas-like-gold-touch for remixes is high in demand from heroes such as Bag Raiders, The Panics, Spod, Killa Queenz, Red Riders, Phrase, and The Herd. In this Refraction exclusive Set, Mailer D explores the schizophrenic and cognitive aspects of dub reggae and it's evolution to future-beats/dubstep.

D I M E N T A G O N (UTS)
Ricky Pannowitz is by his own admission a technology obsessed audio nerd. Ricky records under the name Dimentagon and his debut album Babelfish Wisdom is an audio adventure into progressive electronica. Ricky is currently a Post Graduate Media Arts and Production Student, specialising in sound. Refraction will see him bring a set of micro, glitchy crunchy nut beats coated in deeply layered melodic soundscapes.

MENSTRUATION SISTERS
Menstruation Sisters are more of a natural phenomenon than a musical group. Owing more to the sound of ice melting and eggs hatching than strummed guitars and pounded drums, the Sisters keep one ear on the ground and the other towards the atmosphere. Rather than working within the lines of modern rhythm and structure, they revert towards a primal direction, cutting off the fat and oozing forth only the most natural and unfettered sounds. Naturally, such a technique can be unsettling, as it’s not something most humans are interested to hear, or have heard since upright-walking became a viable mode of transportation. This is music for those who kill their own food.

MAKERS OF THE DEAD TRAVEL FAST
With an eerie haunting simplicity The Makers Of The Dead Travel Fast’s sound was an unobvious take on post punk angularity. Originally active through 1979-1983, during Sydney’s golden age of DIY underground culture. Part of the legendary M squared label roster, they reformed last year to help launch a retrospective box-set Pardon me for barking in like this on the label released by German label VOD, and have since being writing and recording new material.

THE VONN KRAPP FAMALIE
Smashing computers and screaming like Yoko
Eating a bible while riding a loco
Chopping guitars up and breaking the strings
These are a few of their favourite things

Fashion from Gitmo and two corn cob towers
Food fights at Easter, abuse of our powers
A cheaply made movie and Partridge readings
These are a few of our favourite things

When the pay’s good
And the flights free
Or when forced by dad
We all give a show of our favourite things
And then we don’t feel…oh who gives a shit.

Auraltered State #2 – 6th March
http://performancespace.com.au/?p=498

NAKED ON THE VAGUE
Diving deep into a world of apocalyptic pop and psychedelic weirdness Naked On The Vague offer a modern take on the post punk aesthetic. Falling into existence in 2005 with a found organ, broken bass guitar, borrowed drum and some old doom poetry. Their 2007 debut album ‘the blood pressure sessions’ attracted them the attention of seminal US label siltbreeze, who are set to release their second album. The album (their first as a four piece after the original duo acquired a drummer and bass guitarist) is one of the most anticipated local releases this year

BRADBURY
Sydney Australia’s favourite chronically depressed, long term unemployed, alcoholic, asthmatic, homosexual electronic music pioneer. An early adherent to punderphonics, Gary Bradbury is a master editor of found sound, whether it be fastidious early experiments with reel to reel tape or working on today’s digital palette. Since his early involvement with seminal post punk group Severed Heads during their golden years in the early 1980, he has worked with the Sydney Theatre Company on scores for The Tempest and MacBeth and released three solo albums.

CRAB SMASHER
Crab Smasher is a NSW based group of improvisational sound sharks crafting a frenzied hodgepodge of weirdo psychedelic noise rock and experimental pop delicious. The band formed in 2002 as a cheesy electronic novelty noise act and have since mutated through a number of confusing formations into the sellout 4-5 headed rock-and-roll hydra that exists today. With about 13 or 14 CDR, cassette, and digital releases to their name, the band is currently working on a new LP, which promises to be both titillating and queer.

This project is supported by ArtsNSW

ABOUT THE CURATOR.
Lucas Abela has been an extremely active member of the Sydney musical community since he arrived here in from his native Gold Coast 1992. His musical contribution to the city has been immeasurable, producing radio for 2RSRfm, promoting countless shows and tours for local and international acts, hosting unique events in war bunkers, gay amusement parks and the infamous Drowning Man Festival on the Hawkesbury. He was also a founding member of the legendary DIY space Lanfranchi’s Memorial Discothèque. His label dualPLOVER, started with close friend swerve in 1995 has produced albums for many of the city’s artists including Gary Brabury, Naked On The Vague, Singing Sadie, Suicidal Rap Orgy, Alternahunk, Funky Terrorist and others. They even starting a CD manufacturing consolidation in-order to help the broader musical community. Then there’s his own music practice! Over the last 18 years Lucas’ initial turntable experiments have morphed into one of the most unique acts in the world. Described as "a trumpet player trapped in a two dimensional universe" Lucas’ unhealthy obsession with sheets of broken glass has astonished and bemused countless people in over 40 countries. By pressing his face and lips against discarded shards of glass he deftly employs various vocal techniques ranging from throat singing to raspberries to turn them into crude musical instruments. A one of a kind act that re-defines the expression "don't try this at home" and quite simply needs to be witnessed to be fully appreciated, let alone understood.

A SHIMMY SHAKIN' NIGHT OF LIVE ELECTRO/DANCE-POP WITH SUPER MASSIVE & YEN
Award winning Sydney dance/rock band Super Massive team with fellow electro-funksters Yen for a very special night of electro/dance-pop at the Excelsior Hotel Surry Hills on Saturday 7th March. Newcomers Life Bitter Soul support.
The night showcases three of Sydney's best up and coming electronic/dance rock bands. With all bands on the bill sharing a love of deep rhythm, shimmering synths, poetic pop, not to mention lights and lasers, it's set to be a spectacular, shimmy-shakin' night, if not an outright dancing frenzy, if both Super Massive and Yen's previous shows are anything to go by.
The show is at the Excelsior Hotel, 64 Foveaux St, Surry Hills. The night starts at 8pm. Tickets are $10- at the door.

Sydney's famous Mardi Gras Parade is on the same night a short hop & skip away, so you can watch the parade then mosey down Foveaux Street to the Excelsior and keep on dancing and partying as the bands hit the stage.

Super Massive's show is an artful blend of sophistication and sleaze. Combining creative, evocative synthscapes with slammingly funky live instrumentation and an entertaining frontwoman who's been compared to Siouxsie Sioux, Karen O, Peaches and Kylie, it's a heady mix that will make you feel like you are under a voodoo spell of dance.

The band had a fantastic year in 2008, releasing their self-titled debut EP to rave reviews, topping the Triple J Unearthed Dance Chart, playing huge shows of their own at inner city venues such as Candy's Apartment and The Supper Club as well as Surry Hills Festival and two north coast tours. They also have a Best Alternative Artist MusicOz Award under their belts. The band are already off to a great start for 2009, having toured Tasmania in February and leaving Maitland crowds' tongues wagging and motors running a couple of weeks back after a crowd-lathering show there.

Yen have crammed venues such as The Basement, The Vanguard, and Melt with their lush vibes and soulful take on electro-pop. They are also festival veterans, having played at the Peats Ridge Festival, Carriageworks 'Underbelly' festival, Playground Weekender and Newtown Festival, where they have whipped crowds into a dancing frenzy.

Newcomers Life Bitter Soul have already notched up a dozen gigs in Sydney and Melbourne after debuting at the Hopetoun Hotel on only 5th January this year! The trio make dark, edgy, catchy, electro-pop.

Get set for a big night!

Maitland and Newcastle area music fans who prefer their entertainment on the more theatrical side - and particularly those that like to dress up and party - are in for a treat Friday 13th February, as The Grand Junction Hotel, Maitland, takes a ‘Glam Friday The 13th’ theme, with a live show by award-winning, upcoming Sydney dance-rock band Super Massive, whose style draws from disco, electro, glam rock, pop and funk. It starts at 8:30pm and entry is free.

Super Massive is all about lovingly crafted, creative, sexy, sci-funk alterna-pop, delivered with the lustiness of a full rock band.

The shared musical vision of singer/songwriter Malina Hamilton-Smith and drummer/composer Glenn Abbott (best known for his work with Machine Gun Fellatio), Super Massive was awarded ‘Best Alternative Artist” at last year’s MusicOz Awards, and released a debut EP to rave reviews mid last year.

They have been playing shows in Sydney and Newcastle and touring the east coast for the past two and a half years, however this will be their first show for Maitland audiences.

Described by reviewers as “a man-eater”, “a cross between Peaches and Kylie” and compared to Karen O, Blondie, and Siouxsie Sioux, Hamilton-Smith is a cheeky lyricist, extroverted performer and high priestess of a fun show.

Joined onstage by guitarist Marc Malouf and bassist Dan Bruce, the band’s sound is influenced by a diverse range of artists & styles from Basement Jaxx to Led Zeppelin via Chic, Garbage, AIR and Daft Punk, with enough traces of Marilyn Manson, Siouxsie Sioux, Alice Cooper and Black Sabbath in the musical mix to make them the perfect band for a glam Friday The 13th party night.

Says Hamilton-Smith, ‘Well, we thought if everything’s going to be doom and gloom as this year begins, we’ll have fun with doom and gloom! We’re not superstitious. We dress fairly glam already, but the theme has given us lots of new ideas and we’re going to take things even further for this show. To anyone who wants to join in on dressing up; think anything from gothic horror to glam rock. Think shiny, spangly, or satiny. Think glittery fake blood. Think fake axe through the head! Have some fun. It’s about setting yourself free to have a good time.’

And what to expect from the show music wise? ‘The music will be very funky and danceable, with lots of glam rock toms and guitar. We’re doing two sets, and it’ll range from rock to dance, building up to some pretty slamming hard disco/ clubbier vibe stuff at the end. It’ll be lots of fun.’

Super Massive’s self-titled EP is out now through MGM and iTunes and will also be available for purchase at the show on CD for a modest $8-.

ENZYME 8 - Friday January 30th 2009
Blue Velvet - 60 Smith Street Collingwood

FEATURING:
-------------------------

EYE / DJ Citizen (Canberra)
http://www.EyeMusic.info

EYE are releasing the long-delayed "Propaganda Machine Vol.1" CD "Post-Industrial Music for an Information-Age" on the night!

EYE has been active in the Australian independent music scene since the early 90's. He has released numerous industrial and electronic compilations dedicated to promoting Australian subculture, assisted artists in radio exposure, and tirelessly worked to bring political, social and musical awareness to the Australian public. Personally, I am honored to have this old friend in town, and am really looking forward to hearing his new electro industrial masterpiece!

-------------------------

sig.int

A rare opportunity to enjoy the work of local producer sig.int!. sig.int's sound is characterised by subtle and ferocious frequency experiments, capturing the electromagnetic radiation and machine signals from secretive other realms and pulling them apart to analyse and interpret them in human form. Expect raw, clinical glitch soundscapes of shortwave data, military communications and natural phenomena meshed with the dark, psychedelic influence of industrial noisemakers such as merzbow, kk null and zbigniew karkowski.

-------------------------

Manticle

What we love about Manticle is that every concert is a unique awe inspiring feast of sound and equipment! There is beauty in decay. Beauty in the forgotten, the discarded and the repressed. There is beauty in ugliness and there is ugliness in beauty. I’m not sure which side of beauty Manticle is on, nor if it should be described. Like the world’s tastiest cigarette Manticle aims to remove the hairs from your lungs one by one. This is ambient death machine industrial designed to disturb and delight. Constructed entirely live and influenced by acts such as Bockholm, Stravtm Terror and Schloss Tegal, Manticle offers you a new type of bowel syndrome.

-------------------------

BasticH
http://www.myspace.com/bastichmusic

BasticH is releasing their new album! The one-man improvisations of BasticH are aggressive, abrasive and confronting. Combining synthesized sounds with noise and gritty industrial we are looking forward to the first BasticHization of 2009.

-------------------------

Cassandra's Myth
http://cassandrasmyth.com

With an ever flowing live lineup, Cassandra's Myth is a thoughtful melodic blend of electro and synth / guitar focused industrial rock. There is a new CD coming soon so grab this opportunity to hear the latest this local artist has to offer! This set will feature guest keyboardist Mystral Tide with some piano injections.

-------------------------

DJ Infectious Unease
http://www.infectiousuneaseradio.com

15 years on local radio promoting Australian music, and compiling a truly massive array of tastes, genres and music! Writer / performer / musician and DJ, Gordon will be with us again for your listening pleasure. Artists, bring your CD's because Infectious Unease Radio is an institution for promotion of the Australian underground on the airwaves.

From Friday 18 September to Saturday 3 October BF09 UNDER THE RADAR will take over Brisbane's Metro Arts building for the third time, aiming the spotlight at young and emerging theatre artists who operate under the radar of the mainstream.

Next year we will also move beyond theatre, taking BF09 UNDER THE RADAR and all its quirky splendour to the masses on the streets of Brisbane's CBD. For the first time street theatre will be included in the programme with an estimated 10 shows being staged in shop fronts, vacant retail premises and on the streets over 2 weeks.

BF09 UNDER THE RADAR producer Fiona MacDonald said "We were amazed by the sheer number of applications in 2008 and also the quality of the work. We're hoping for many more pleasant surprises this year. The BF08 UNDER THE RADAR "Best In Show" winner has since been programmed in festivals across the country as well as receiving a substantial scholarship. So if you're into theatre and performing, make sure you send us an application. You've got nothing to lose!"

Successful BF09 UNDER THE RADAR applicants will receive 100% of box office takings for a season of 4-5 shows, venue and technical hire, production and marketing support from the festival to get their show up and out there plus an awesome chance to expand their creative networks, hook up with like minded artists and arts workers and share a platform with some of the world’s best productions

Applications must be received by 6pm (EST) Monday 16 February 2009.

A selection committee of Australia's arts industry practitioners from various art forms will then consider each application. The committee will meet in Brisbane in early 2009 to determine which productions will feature in BF09 UNDER THE RADAR. Successful applications will be notified in April 2009.

Through BF09 UNDER THE RADAR, Brisbane Festival aims to give a leg up to artists and companies on the edge of the mainstream.

BF09 Artistic Director and CEO Lyndon Terracini said "Everyone has to start somewhere. Anyone who works in the arts has been there and knows how hard it is to get a break. BF09 UNDER THE RADAR is our way of fostering the next generation of performers."

from Liquid Architecture's About page

Liquid Architecture, Australia's premier sound-arts festival, celebrates its eighth consecutive year with concerts, artist talks, workshops, forums, live performances, exhibitions, installations, audio-visuals and recorded work. Featuring our most imaginative musicians, composers, film-sound designers and media artists in a sense-specific feast for the ears.

What is 'Sound Art'?

"For many, it refers to sound-based art work (or at least art work where the principal focus is on sound) across the broad gamut of performance, installation and broadcast contexts, which departs from both traditional musical instrumentation and notational methods and frequently employs electronic media. Others may see it as an intersecting space with roots in post-Cageian music practice, or indeed 'post-phonographic' music practice, and installation art."
-- Julian Knowles then Professor of Music and Head of the School of Music and Drama at the University of Wollongong, in an article entitled Sound Practice, Sound Thesis in RealTime No68, August / September 2005

What is Liquid Architecture?

Liquid Architecture is a sense specific festival, as opposed to art form specific. Occurring annually since 2000, Liquid Architecture celebrates the diverse methods of sound making and sound theory. It is our belief that listening is a vital activity, and one that is often overlooked within the dominance of visual media in our environment.

What will I hear?

A key objective is the promotion of artists practicing on the periphery of music and sound culture, particularly those with an experimental aesthetic and a critical approach to (media) cultures. The artistic content of the festival focuses upon and privileges sound practice in all its manifestations but, due to the cross disciplinary potential of sound, many other art practices are included in the festival. Liquid Architecture focuses on any and all art forms involving particular emphasis on the auditory, including an exciting mix of musical performance, AV presentations and installation work, along with a strong critical element involving panels, workshops and artist talks.

Who's it for?

Now coming into its eighth consecutive year, Liquid Architecture strives to combine the fragmented communities in which sound arts practices occurs, striving for cross disciplinary appreciation and critique. The practical objective of this strategy is to popularise and publicise sound culture through greater aggregate audience size and a higher profile, and to make sound culture more accessible to the community, particularly to youth and student audiences. Audiences currently include those engaged with contemporary creative practice, sound arts practitioners, music industry professionals, electronic music concert goers, academics, cultural theorists and students (post & undergraduate), youth audiences and enthusiasts of adventurous popular music.

Liquid Architecture aims to popularise sound culture, particularly with young/emerging content producers within Australia's active student culture, in order to build not only future audiences but also future artists. Our rationale reflects an intense engagement with specialist and broader cultures, and the desire to make a contribution to those cultures. Sound practice is often cross disciplinary and the festival should reflect that, not only in the work presented but in the broad range of audiences it attracts.

The opportunities to network with national and international artists are an important means of generating future initiatives and cross cultural collaborations. The community is being exposed to some of the most exciting explorations occurring within sound culture that also happen to intersect with the media and fine arts. The exposure generated by Liquid Architecture is crucial in developing new audiences for the many discreet sound and experimental music communities currently operating around the country, and internationally.

Who's responsible?

Liquid Architecture is curated by practicing sound artists. Directed by Nat Bates, who heads the ((tRansMIT)) sound collective, and co-directed with Ben Byrne and Shannon O'Neill from alias frequencies and Lawrence English from ROOM40. The Artefacts of Australian Experimental Music CD launch is presented by Shame File Music.

Ben and Shannon have fostered a Sydney home at the Performance Space, Lawrence works closely with the Brisbane Powerhouse, and in Melbourne the festival is once again supported by RMIT Union Arts and returns again to the Arts House at the North Melbourne Town Hall.

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its principal arts funding and advisory body.
The Sydney season is supported by Arts NSW, Melbourne by Arts Victoria.
Pauline Oliveros and Ione's visit has been made possible through the Alt.Music Festival under The Audio Foundation New Zealand, and in co-operation with the Fulbright association.
Runzelstirn & Gurgelstock and Dave Philips' visit is supported by Pro Helvetia and dual plover.

Sydney band Super Massive were awarded "Best Alternative Artist" at the 2007 MusicOz Award last week at the Enmore Thetre, for their creative and evocative synth/rock song "Fists": An impressive achievement considering that the band has not yet released a single CD, nor had a scrap of airplay.

Super Massive is the creative partnership of singer/writer Malina Hamilton-Smith and drummer/composer Glenn Abbott, best known for his work with popular Australian band Machine Gun Fellatio.

The two found a mutual interest in aiming to create the perfect symbiosis of multi-layered synthscapes and the visceral impact of a full rock band.

Inspired in equal measures by funk, pop song structures, rock, french electro, tribal rhythms and the theatrics of glam rock, Super Massive's sound is like a spectacular mirrorball that reflects many tiny pieces of influence, from Burt Bacharach to Alice Cooper to Bessie Smith and Goldfrapp via Tower Of Power, AC/DC and Basement Jaxx, yet with a sound entirely its own.

Joined by electric bass genius John D Young (Chuck Berry, Marcia Hines, Vanda & Young) and talented young guitarist Marc Malouf, the band delivers a powerful and entertaining live show.

Super Massive's debut EP, which includes the award-winning track "Fists", is due for release in January, with an east coast tour slated for late Jan. You can also catch the band at Peats Ridge Festival on Dec 29th.

Inspired in equal measures by funk, pop song structures, rock, french electro, tribal rhythms and the theatrics of glam rock, Super Massive's sound is like a spectacular mirrorball that reflects many tiny pieces, from Burt Bacharach to Alice Cooper to Bessie Smith and Goldfrapp via Tower Of Power, AC/DC and Basement Jaxx.

Joined by electric bass genius John D Young (Chuck Berry, Marcia Hines, Vanda & Young) and talented guitarist Marc Malouf, the band will be bringing their show to the Mona Vale Hotel on Saturday 24th November.

Super Massive's debut EP is due for release in January, with an east coast tour slated for late Jan. You can also catch the band at Peats Ridge Festival on Dec 29th.

The band has a unique sound and a treasure trove of songs that respond to the nature of today’s urbanised, fast-paced world.

Much of the writing was inspired by the experience of living in inner Sydney over the last couple of years. Says singer Malina Hamilton-Smith “Some of the songs are observations of society, whilst some are escapism – but escapism of a realistic kind. The sort of escapism anyone can achieve, such as trying to take life at a slower pace, living in the moment or living in your body as opposed to your head.”

Unlike many electro-heavy bands, Super Massive is a full rock band line-up, with synth elements used to add layers of texture, creating a very full and distinctive sound. Influences stretch beyond the current fashion for 80s synthpop to embrace aspects of 70s rock, glam rock, funk, French electro and big beat, building an original sound that avoids ever being purely retro.

Formed in 2005, Super Massive’s chief writers are singer/performer/writer Hamilton-Smith and drummer/composer Glenn Abbott (best known for his work in Machine Gun Fellatio). Talented bassist John D. Young (Marcia Hines, Chuck Berry, Vanda & Young) joined in 2006.

Rhythm and groove is incredibly important to Super Massive. “We want the music to move people, physically and emotionally. Glenn and John are both very funky players, and it’s awesome when they really let loose, play something intense and challenging and carry the audience away with them. They’re very good at adding tasty playing without distracting from the core structure of the song.”

One of the most popular events of the inner west’s cultural calendar, the Marrickville Road Festival is a street party that attracts over 50,000 people a year. “We’re thrilled to have been asked to play. We’re still a very new band and haven’t released any of our music yet, so it’s a lovely surprise to have been asked to join the bill of such a wonderful community spirited event. It’s great to be a part of it and we’re looking forward to a really fun day.”

SUPER MASSIVE PLAY WILL & TOBY'S SUPPER CLUB - FRIDAY 18TH MAY

Ex-MGF drummer Glenn Abbott shows us what he’s been up to since MGF broke up. Abbott’s new synth/dance/rock band Super Massive play at the newly launched Will & Toby’s Taylor Square on Friday 18th May, in the Supper Club.

Will & Toby's Taylor Square is a multi-million dollar revamp of the old Oxford Hotel, where the infamous and much loved Gilligan's once was. (Aaah, how I used to love the mudslide cocktail they did there, back in my podium dancing days.) The room's been completely decked out with incredible surroundings including a four-story gothic fairytale backdrop, a floating jade ceiling and 5 metre leather chesterfields for all to lounge upon. It's a decadent, brand new venue and it only just opened last week.

Super Massive is a love affair of funky dance-able grooves and synth-based pop rock, mutually shared by drummer / producer Abbott and Malina, a Sydney singer / performer who came to the project creatively invigorated by a year spent pulling beers in a London music venue, travelling in Spain & Mexico and studying performance in London and New York.

Teaming up in 2005, the duo spent a year musically exploring and writing before teaming with electric bass genius John D. Young (Chuck Berry, Marcia Hines, Vanda & Young and .. almost Prince – John turned him down), who brought a treasure trove of extra groove, sex and sweet bass licks to all the songs. Young talent Matt Campbell joined them on guitar.

Super Massive’s music is thrilling get-up-and-dance and sing-along-at-the-same-time rock. A heady brew of tasty playing and exhilarating grooves, with plenty of variety in the songs and sounds. It reveals it’s roots here and there, with flashes of 70s rock, glam rock, cock rock, 80s electro and irresistible disco, yet without ever sounding purely retro. It’s a dark pink sunset. It’s a bonfire on the beach. It’s an intimate moment on a laserbeam shot dancefloor. It’s fresh as a snowflake and as black as your soul.

The band has been in the studio recording for some months, and is looking to release something later in the year. Whilst performing a recent opening slot at the Bridge Hotel in aid of a friend’s album launch, Super Massive impressed one of the bookers of the new Will & Toby’s Taylor Square. After catching only two songs of their set, the band were asked to headline The Supper Club at Will & Toby’s Taylor Square on Friday 18th May. This is a great chance to sneak preview the new tunes, and check out / support an exciting new venue while you’re at it.

Candy lips, gyrating hips and lots of beautiful rock/pop music - Two SUPER MASSIVE shows this month.

This is our live show alert. We have two shows this month. They're both supports, but they are special gigs nonetheless, as we are good mates with members of the headline bands for both of these shows, so we're looking forward to a good vibe and having some FUN.

Saturday 21st April - The Bridge Hotel, Rozelle - CD Launch for Daddy Frisco

Saturday 21st April our friend Chris Feegs has asked us to open up for his band Daddy Frisco at The Bridge Hotel, Rozelle, to help them celebrate the launch of their new EP “Beautiful”, which will be out on Waterfront Records. We're on early – 8:30pm – and looking forward to lending our support to the guys. Champagne Shoes (that enthralling, satirical, musical lovechild of 3K & Vash) is the main support act, for those who enjoyed seeing their hilarious music & theatrics brought to life at the Hopetoun at our last show there, and would like another dose. There’s also an after-destination, tbc on the night, where Glenn (from Super Massive) will be doing a drummer vs dj slot, for those who want to carry on from rockland into clubland once the party starts to wind down at The Bridge.

Sunday 29th April - Annandale Hotel - 3 x Rock/Synth bands with Female Vocalists.

Then on the following Sunday, the 29th April, we’re very proud & excited to say we’ve been invited to join a bill of rock bands fronted by female vocalists. The night was put together by Coke Live’n’Local winners Krill, who have become wonderful friends of ours since the first time we played together, and are dedicated fellow arbiters of the synth-rock genre. There are four girls in their band actually, but, agreeably their music is every bit as much ear-candy as their gorgeous selves are eye-candy : ) Some of you would have seen them at our Spectrum show, fresh from a tour of Germany and the east coast.

Sunday’s show is at The Annandale Hotel, and it starts EARLY, being a Sunday. 6pm doors open, and it’s all over by 9:45pm, well early enough for everyone to enjoy the show and still be home and tucked into bed at a very reasonable hour. The Dirty Arrows are opening up. Check ‘em all out! We’re looking forward to this show!! Stick it in your calendar, in your diary or write it on your palm or whatever and spread the word! ‘cause it’s a bloody big room to fill and the more people we can get along, the more likely we all are to get laid, or to get Glenn and/or Yashi to do the robot. Ha ha! We're on main support so we can stick around and chat afterwards - new Myspace Friends, please come up and say hello! Krill are putting up a lucky door prize and there will be other giveaways on the night. Possibly a ceramic hair-straightener, we’ve been told. We think it’s pink, but there'll be no discriminating since we all know how sexy guys look with the smouldering Italian Vogue, sex-rocker, tarzan-locks look. (It’s a look Glenn manages every day when he rolls out of bed. He was just born rock&roll.) Might mention also there’s a very good thai restaurant there at the back of the Annandale, if you’re as lazy as we are about cooking on a Sunday night. We recommend it with gusto. Not sure about the Beerzooka, although it does need to be seen.. If we drank one I think you’d see our bazookas.
