'This is a great chance for me to put together a couple of decades of my favourite stories and songs. They tell a whole different story.' Laurie Anderson
Transitory Life is a solo retrospective performance by Laurie Anderson drawing on her life’s work. The collection of songs and stories includes pieces from Anderson’s acclaimed solo shows The Speed of Darkness, Happiness, The End of the Moon and Homeland.
In an intimate evening of voice, electronics and violin, Anderson spins offbeat adventure stories with her characteristic wit and poignancy. The evening also features her solo violin pieces, which have become increasingly complex and symphonic. It promises to be a uniquely personal and compelling opportunity to experience Anderson’s world-renowned performance work.

Kevin Blechdom (real name: Kristin Erickson) was born in Florida in 1978.

Kevin Blechdom’s third solo album, GENTLEMANIA, was released on Sonig Records in April 2009, co-produced by Kevin and Mocky in Berlin. Less schizophrenic and madcap manic as her previous two electronic albums, on GENTLEMANIA we hear Blechdom slow down, take a deep breath, and, with thoughtful control, peel back layers of emotion. Combining a strong background in classical and experimental music with a broad knowledge of songwriting traditions, Kevin travels between and coalesces country jangle, Broadway show tunes, old-school R&B, and many other styles into a cohesive and true musical story. The autobiographical and interpersonal themes revolve around introspection, longing, doubt, hope, and ultimately, human transformation.

Since 2007, and to support her newest release, Blechdom is touring as a duo in a hi-tech country and ragtime band with Christopher Fleeger called BARNWAVE.

Kevin began recording music with her brother in an experimental rock band called ADULT RODEO in 1997, releasing two albums on the revered Shimmy Disc label and more records on the Adult Rodeo imprint, Four States Fair Records. Later she hooked up with Blevin Blectum (Bevin Kelley) and formed BLECTUM FROM BLECHDOM after an accidental collaboration one Halloween night while they were at Mills College in Oakland, California. Blectum from Blechdom was a hyperactive computer and sampler duo priding itself with its own digital confusion, frenetic madness, and psychotic delusions. The duo released frenzied and frazzled electronic music on labels such as Tigerbeat6, Deluxe, Orthlorng Musork, and Phthalo. The album “The Messy Jesse Fiesta” won 2nd prize at the prestigious Ars Electronica for digital music in 2001, and soon after they broke up. In 2006 Blectum from Blechdom reuinited by pie-ing each other in the face, and have since been recording and touring together.

After Blectum From Blechdom broke up, Kristin kept her team name Kevin Blechdom and relocated herself to Berlin for five years. She wrote and produced two albums for the Chicks on Speed label: BITCHES WITHOUT BRITCHES (2003) and EAT MY HEART OUT (2005). The albums are a mishmash of styles and production techniques. From Broadway musical to General MIDI rock opera to electro-smudge to aleatoric blatherings, her albums contribute a bizarre spin on what pop music can be for an era of attention span deficit.

Since 1998, Kevin has been touring around the world playing live shows and collaborating. She has worked with artists such as Eugene Chadbourne, Fred Frith, Jad Fair, Kramer, Jamie Lidell, Kid606, Dat Politics, Mocky, John Bischoff, Chris Brown, Zeena Parkins, Cristian Vogel, Safety Scissors, Heidi Mortenson, the Organ Lady, Lumberob, Ching Chong Song, Irene Moon, Teatro Praga, Myrobotfriend, Charlie Engstrom, Christopher Fleeger, Lucile Desamory, Chicks on Speed, Kim Hiorthoy, Andre Vida, Denzel Sinclair, Max Tundra, and Planningtorock. She has played shows in Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Moscow, and across Europe and the United States.

During 2008, she finally completed her M.F.A. degree in Electronic and Computer Music Composition at Mills College. Her final project for school was writing a forty minute opera called Recantata, which musically retold the story about her preschool teachers who were wrongfully imprisoned for satanic ritual abuse because of the misguidance of some child-hypnotizing psychologists.

Kevin produced two self-released Ching Chong Song albums, LITTLE NAKED GAY ADVENTURE and EVERYTHING IS FOR THE BABIES.

She is a founding member of SLAUGHTERIN' SLOBBERSVILLE, a semi-improvised collaborative improperatic musical mutant side show known for touring with too many people in very small vehicles.

Currently she is in Lisbon composing the music for a Musical Theater show called "DEMO" with the Teatro Praga company.

Instrumentation
Kevin Blechdom plays live in a duo called BARNWAVE, often billed as "Kevin Blechdom featuring BARNWAVE." Kevin plays piano, keyboards, digital effects (sometimes computer), banjo, and sings. Her partner, Christopher Fleeger (a.k.a. BARNWAVE) provides arena-sized real-time production via his self-programmed Max/MSP patches and a collection of membrane/mallet gestural controllers. During the show BARNWAVE and Blechdom exchange live MIDI data to synchronize real-time video software with the music. Basically it's a cabaret duo of piano & drums with a few computers in between.

The show is at the Excelsior Hotel, 64 Foveaux St, Surry Hills. The night starts at 8pm. Tickets are $10- at the door.

Sydney's famous Mardi Gras Parade is on the same night a short hop & skip away, so you can watch the parade then mosey down Foveaux Street to the Excelsior and keep on dancing and partying as the bands hit the stage.

Super Massive's show is an artful blend of sophistication and sleaze. Combining creative, evocative synthscapes with slammingly funky live instrumentation and an entertaining frontwoman who's been compared to Siouxsie Sioux, Karen O, Peaches and Kylie, it's a heady mix that will make you feel like you are under a voodoo spell of dance.

The band had a fantastic year in 2008, releasing their self-titled debut EP to rave reviews, topping the Triple J Unearthed Dance Chart, playing huge shows of their own at inner city venues such as Candy's Apartment and The Supper Club as well as Surry Hills Festival and two north coast tours. They also have a Best Alternative Artist MusicOz Award under their belts. The band are already off to a great start for 2009, having toured Tasmania in February and leaving Maitland crowds' tongues wagging and motors running a couple of weeks back after a crowd-lathering show there.

Yen have crammed venues such as The Basement, The Vanguard, and Melt with their lush vibes and soulful take on electro-pop. They are also festival veterans, having played at the Peats Ridge Festival, Carriageworks 'Underbelly' festival, Playground Weekender and Newtown Festival, where they have whipped crowds into a dancing frenzy.

Newcomers Life Bitter Soul have already notched up a dozen gigs in Sydney and Melbourne after debuting at the Hopetoun Hotel on only 5th January this year! The trio make dark, edgy, catchy, electro-pop.

Get set for a big night!

He frequently makes use of "micro-gestures" - subtle physical manipulations of computer hardware which control software synthesis engines allowing him to perform directly on the software in real time. greg is also known as "cactusman" due to his penchant for using a cactus as an amplified acoustic instrument.

endoPHONIC is greg's main musical vehicle and is a collaboration with like minded composer richard wilding. Using elements like electronic transformations of acoustic sound sources and real-time software synthesis, endoPHONIC use the vocabulary of musique concrete' to navigate a course through contemporary non-dance oriented electronica.

Recently greg has worked on a number of collaborative performance projects, including the Hutt River Space Agency and The Arcimboldo Project. In these he employed a number of bio-lectro musical devices - namely a cactus, a carrot, a watermelon and a cabbage. These objects were contact mic'ed and amplified as greg alternately plucked, masticated and smashed them.

greg lectures in sound media at the Creative Industries Faculty at the Queensland University of Technology and has also been artistic director of the performance ensemble Simulation. He curated the concert programme of the Australasian Computer Music Association's 2000 conference and has also worked on a number of film score projects. Most notable of these was co-writing the score for the short film STOP which gained international recognition at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival.

greg's first mode of artistic expression was in the composer's collective Trojan Theatre. Trojan Theatre performed at events such as the Brisbane Festival Fringe, Shock of the New and the Wild Front Ear. These performances established an interesting precedent - the band brought their own mixing console which was invariably bigger than the front of house PA. At the time this was considered extremely subversive and a few front of house engineers were more that a little disturbed by this (you've got HOW MANY keyboards?) And then there were the multiple computers on stage ... These performances helped establish the language of musical discourse greg continues to develop today - appreciating and composing with the subtleties inherent within sounds.

ENZYME 8 - Friday January 30th 2009
Blue Velvet - 60 Smith Street Collingwood

FEATURING:
-------------------------

EYE / DJ Citizen (Canberra)
http://www.EyeMusic.info

EYE are releasing the long-delayed "Propaganda Machine Vol.1" CD "Post-Industrial Music for an Information-Age" on the night!

EYE has been active in the Australian independent music scene since the early 90's. He has released numerous industrial and electronic compilations dedicated to promoting Australian subculture, assisted artists in radio exposure, and tirelessly worked to bring political, social and musical awareness to the Australian public. Personally, I am honored to have this old friend in town, and am really looking forward to hearing his new electro industrial masterpiece!

-------------------------

sig.int

A rare opportunity to enjoy the work of local producer sig.int!. sig.int's sound is characterised by subtle and ferocious frequency experiments, capturing the electromagnetic radiation and machine signals from secretive other realms and pulling them apart to analyse and interpret them in human form. Expect raw, clinical glitch soundscapes of shortwave data, military communications and natural phenomena meshed with the dark, psychedelic influence of industrial noisemakers such as merzbow, kk null and zbigniew karkowski.

-------------------------

Manticle

What we love about Manticle is that every concert is a unique awe inspiring feast of sound and equipment! There is beauty in decay. Beauty in the forgotten, the discarded and the repressed. There is beauty in ugliness and there is ugliness in beauty. I’m not sure which side of beauty Manticle is on, nor if it should be described. Like the world’s tastiest cigarette Manticle aims to remove the hairs from your lungs one by one. This is ambient death machine industrial designed to disturb and delight. Constructed entirely live and influenced by acts such as Bockholm, Stravtm Terror and Schloss Tegal, Manticle offers you a new type of bowel syndrome.

-------------------------

BasticH
http://www.myspace.com/bastichmusic

BasticH is releasing their new album! The one-man improvisations of BasticH are aggressive, abrasive and confronting. Combining synthesized sounds with noise and gritty industrial we are looking forward to the first BasticHization of 2009.

-------------------------

Cassandra's Myth
http://cassandrasmyth.com

With an ever flowing live lineup, Cassandra's Myth is a thoughtful melodic blend of electro and synth / guitar focused industrial rock. There is a new CD coming soon so grab this opportunity to hear the latest this local artist has to offer! This set will feature guest keyboardist Mystral Tide with some piano injections.

-------------------------

DJ Infectious Unease
http://www.infectiousuneaseradio.com

15 years on local radio promoting Australian music, and compiling a truly massive array of tastes, genres and music! Writer / performer / musician and DJ, Gordon will be with us again for your listening pleasure. Artists, bring your CD's because Infectious Unease Radio is an institution for promotion of the Australian underground on the airwaves.

A classically trained pianist and master of the art of software production. Bluetech's love of the melodic and exquisite sense of sound design makes him one of the most ingenius producers today.

Bluetech's sound emerges from his custom-built Reaktor instruments and software based synthesisers as a primordial electro-dub alchemy. While encompassing musical touches from different parts of the globe, he presents a total blend, crossing genres and borders.

Bluetech has created a label called Native State Records to release his own music and music from other artists who cross boundaries between ambient/chill and more idm/experimental sounds.

Not content to stay at home, Bluetech has toured extensively and performed in Japan, UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Croatia, France, Denmark, Mexico, United States, and Canada.

Bluetech has released two albums on Aleph Zero Records, an internationally acclaimed chill label run by recording artist Shulman, and is currently working on a third for release in 2008. Aleph Zero brought Bluetech's music to the attention of the international chill audience, and helped to launch his career worldwide through strong support and beautiful packaging. Stay tuned for the next chapter!

LAUNCHING NOVEMBER 19
As of Sunday December 19th, Uber Lingua is back with a weekly thing at the Abercrombie Hotel in Ultimo... arvos from 4pm in the Beer Garden thru summer, nice n close to our core mob...
and this time it's different... two house bands are melding with the crew of DJs to form a Sound System of Systems... Does that make sense? Well yes it does... coz the acts are the funked latin Dub-Hop crew SOCIAL PROGRESSION SYSTEM and Trevor Brown's electronics meets skankin' brass and strings ensemble the GYPSY DUB SOUND SYSTEM...
Both acts have impro woven within their genetic makeup and week by week they'll loosely form alongside the selectors and provide continuous Jazz-esque spontaneity across multi-hour sonic brackets... There'll be food to be had with once again a rotated list of international food caterers booked for the event so that each week a different culinary delight awaits... with the occasional Roo & veggies BBQ (when bP's in town)...
Joining Mashy P, Sheerien and interstate interloper bP as a resident DJ is another leading figure of trans-lingual musical happenings in Sydney, Stu Buchanan... presenter of the legendary Fat Planet Radio show on FBi.
Alongside these are a league of culturally active DJs who will be rotated thru the place like there's no tomorrow. Individuals such as Prince V, Ollo DJs, James Locksmith, Spex, Man About Town, sakamoiz, Hezekiah and the like...
There'll be food to be had with once again a rotated list of international food caterers booked for the event so that each week a different culinary delight awaits... with the occasional Roo & veggies BBQ (when bP's in town)...
It all starts on Sunday December 19th with all residents bar Sheerien (who's overseas) playing... Both house bands will be in affect with Social Progression System appearing in their more cut back form SPS Crew.
It's free to get in before 7pm and $5 after that so mosey on down and join in on the opening night...
