music is Indian Summer by Big Bud

I went along to the Sarai Independent Fellows 2006 workshops last weekend (26-27/08) @ Sarai, CSDS, New Delhi. I missed the first two days sessions, but here is a slideshow video of some of the saturday & sunday sessions. it was really interesting - both the presentations and the discussions afterwards. some sessions were in Hindi so I couldn't follow as easily. there were a wide range of projects though - art, music, urban issues. hopefully they'll link to some of the full papers on the sarai.net website. it was a great way to get another insight into life and goings on in India and related places.

The Korean Electro-Acoustic Music Society (KEAMS) was founded for the development of electro-acoustic music and computer music in 1993.

The society provides a broad forum for new compositions and performance of electro-acoustic music, research about music technology and computer music, technical information sharing, and concerts of electro-acoustic music both in Korea and abroad. Its membership includes composers, performers, educators, researchers and others with an interest of electro-acoustic music. KEAMS' activities include an annual international festival "SICMF", the yearly scientific journal "Emile", and locally organized events such as contests and seminars.

KEAMS is involved with the following activities:

Seminar

Every month we invite a composer, theorist, or performer and held a seminar for our members and people who are interested in electro-acoustic music.

Summer Camp

The annual summer camp has held since 2000 with different subject every year for our members or students.

The New Zealand Film Archive has three principal functions—to collect, protect and project New Zealand's moving image heritage.

Established in 1981, the Film Archive is an independent charitable trust overseen by a Board of Trustees representing film, archival, Maori and community interests. The Film Archive's constitution (PDF, 76K) and kaupapa (PDF, 76K) express a unique commitment to collect, protect and project New Zealand's film and television history.

The collections of predominantly New Zealand film and video dates from 1895 to the present day. In the collections are feature films, documentaries, short films, home movies, newsreels, television programmes and film and television advertisements. A large documentation collection is also held, including publicity materials, stills, posters, production records and equipment.

The Film Archive maintains a kaitiaki role over the collections. This guardianship ensures the ownership of the original item remains with the depositor and copyright of the material is maintained by appropriate parties. In the case of material with Maori content, the Film Archive is actively developing relationships with whanau/hapu/iwi to ensure appropriate long term care and access. Items in the Archive collection are deposited by members of the public and industry voluntarily and without cost to the depositor.

The Film Archive draws on the materials from the collections for regular events. Guided visits and tailored screening programmes for education, community and touring groups are available.

The Archive also maintains two libraries consisting of a catalogue, reference books and periodicals, videos and viewing facilities. Commercial access to items in the collections is available in some instances.

As part of its commitment to reaching audiences nationwide, the Film Archive has an Auckland Office and co-ordinates a network of video access sites in art galleries and museums in Dunedin, Palmerston North, New Plymouth, Hamilton and Whangarei. The Film Archive conducts regular film screenings around New Zealand as part of Te Hokinga Mai and the Community Screenings programme.

The Film Archive is a member of FIAF (Federation Internationale des Archives du Film), AMIA (Association of Moving Image Archivists) and SEPAVAA (South East Asia and Pacific Audio-Visual Archives Association), and adheres to international standards of collection management, preservation and access.

The Australia Institute is an independent public policy research centre funded by grants from philanthropic trusts, memberships and commissioned research.

Philosophy

The Institute was launched in 1994 to develop and conduct research and policy analysis and to participate forcefully in public debates. In addition, the Institute undertakes research and analysis commissioned and paid for by government, business, unions and community organisations. Those involved in the Institute have each, from different viewpoints, been concerned about the impact on Australian society of the priority given to a narrow definition of economic efficiency over community, environmental and ethical considerations in public and private decision making. A better balance is urgently needed.

Private markets, while effective at encouraging efficiency in many circumstances, frequently fail to reflect adequately the ethical, social and environmental priorities of the community. Governments must provide the appropriate institutional framework in which private markets operate so as to ensure that they contribute to justice, equity and sustainability as well as efficiency. Market outcomes are not value free and the Institute reasserts the place of ethics in making public and private decisions.
