:::::: Dan Marshall ::::::

Background : I started listening to underground music in the 80s, but
never
crossed the border from heavy rock to the electronic frontier until I
was
inspired by the original yet successful White Zombie - Electric Head.
The
dark psychedelic highly sampled rhythms drove me to investigate dance
music
even though at the time I had a distinct (and undue) disdain for the
electronic scene. What I found was ultra cheesy happy hardcore (that
had
constituted most of the South African rave scene at the time) and
ultimately
drove me away from the scene again until I reluctantly attended my
first
rave here in Brisbane. I overnight became a hardened dance music nut.
My
thirst for original yet quality sounds intensified and I toyed with
the idea
of becoming a DJ. A friend of mine Mark Jones AKA DJ Luminheir (he
played on
briz:b:e:a:t:s on 20 May) purchased some turntables and we started
collecting vinyl together. Since then we've been DJing, writing tunes
and
remixing each others music in what is turning out to be a rather
productive
partnership.

Musical Style : Progressive tech sounds with a funkier emphasis
complemented
by driving techno and the softer side of melodic trance.

Influences/Inspirations : Mark Dynamix, Timo Maas, Chris Tisdell,
Mauro
Piccotto, Chris Liberator, D.A.V.E. the drummer, The Plump DJs,
Dieselboy,
Kazu Kimura, The Usual Suspects, DJ Dan (not Dan Marshall... that
would be a
tad egotistical now wouldn't it!), Simon Digby, DJ Icey, Pascal
F.E.O.S.,
Max Graham, Resin Dogs

Favorite labels : Hope, Additive, Turbulence , Bush, Nucleaz Green,
Hooj,
Excession, Wetmusic, BXR, Superstition.

Dan Marshall is playing a set on briz:b:e:a:t:s this Sunday 3rd June
from
3-4pm.

:::::: Subtekk ::::::

Subtekk are made up of Dejan Petrovic and Brad Schwede both from
Brisbane,
Australia. Subtekk is a division of `Analogik' (an online resource
for
digital artists - see Analogik.com) which was formed whilst working
on a
short film "Contrast", featuring their own music. Following this
film,
Subtekk grew, working on several `new media' projects including
interactive
CDs,
3D animation and of course - more music.

The philosophy behind the work Subtekk produce is "to create what we
like
personally and present it to people in the hope that they will like
it too.
It is this way that we can make the music that we want to make and
have fun
at the same time. Inspiration for what we produce, be it visual or
auditory, is drawn from what we see and hear in our daily routine.
Our main
inspiration seems to come from the ever-present technology that
we use to create and that is all around us."

Subtekk had the opportunity to perform some their new tracks live at
Reset,
a recent UQ Electronic Artists Society (EAS) party held at the
ZEN:warehouse. "From all reports people liked the music that we
played
(psy-trance, electronic, industrial, hard techno). As Subtekk is
only in
its infancy, we are learning the art of electronic music and what it
takes
to make it in this industry. Subtekk looks forward to releasing our
first CD
featuring the latest tracks."

For those of you who like to support live electronic music, you can
catch
Subtekk performing live at sun@mantra, this Sunday night 3rd June at
Mantra
along with other live performers, Music 4 Pleasure and DJs Entropy
(David
Gunn) and Friday - doors open @ 7:30pm. You can also preview
Subtekk's music
this Sunday afternoon from 2-3pm on briz:b:e:a:t:s.

:::::: DJ Micksaround ::::::

DJM made his first play into the Brisbane valley dance scene around 2
years
ago, and he started mixing simply because he was a child obssesed
with not
just music, but controlling it.

His musical influences and tastes are spread over a very broard
collection
of sounds from OSIBISA, Disco, Funk and early Hip Hop, too the latest
fresh
funky house grooves, and bass driven breaks and tech. Mick is also a
big
African percussion nut and finds himself at festivals all over the
East
Coast and in jams when ever he can.

Extending his percussional experience he started playing out live
with other
musicians creating a fresh sound with his sets, and promotions. A
recent
example of this was at the Easter Advent*jah dance music festival
where DJM
and the rest of the Ravebreak team hosted what has been acclaimed as
the
freshest chillout venue Advent*jah, if not Brisbane, has ever seen
with a
musicians stage mixed live over the ravebreak dj team. Instruments
included
flute, sax, d'jembe, boogaraboo's, and didge.

Micksaround is currently working with live sax and percussion at
Mantra on
Thursday nights where he won his residency late last year through
Mantra's
DJ competition, supporting fresh talent.

When asked, which direction he will take in his progression through
the
dance scene?
" don't know, I lost my compass a while back and its all been...
getting
funky since then."

When he plays out he plays to stand out, enjoy!

You can catch DJ Micksaround playing @ 4Play, every Thursday night at
Mantra. He will be playing a set on briz:b:e:a:t:s this Sunday
afternoon
from 1-2pm.

Chris Tisdell is one of Brisbane's most respected, successful and
versatile talents and has been involved in the dance music scene for
the
best part of a decade; from Djing through to organising and running
club
nights and distributing dance music throughout Australia.

Technically brilliant and with "a mixing style which has been
described as seamless" (Rave Magazine #169), Chris regularly Djs at
many of
South-East Queensland's top clubs where he dishes up some of the
hottest
vinyl to the masses, and is best known for his epic three hour sets
consisting of pumping progressive house / trance. Moreover, Chris has
been
one of the pioneers in actively pushing this energetic and emotional
style
of music throughout Australia.

Chris has supported such artists as Chicane, Dave Seaman, Timo Maas,
Danny
Howells, Ferry Corsten, Fatboy Slim, Binary Finary, Robert Miles,
Colin
Tevendale, Art of Trance, Anne Savage, Roger Sanchez, Terra Ferma,
Baby Doc,
Union Jack, Andy Passman, S-J, DJ Patrick Reid, Highland, Pee Wee
Ferris,
Sean Quinn and Kasey Taylor to name just a few.

In The Groove Imports was set up by Chris five years ago. In the
Groove offers a vinyl service for the discerning Dj as well as
distributing records and Dj equipment throughout the country. Some
labels
which are distributed through In The Groove are; Strictly Rhythm,
Stress
Records and Cleveland City as well as local label Liquid Motion
Records.

Deeply involved in dance music marketing and promotions, Chris has
successfully organised parties and promotions for such companies as
Stress
Records (UK), Mixmag, DMC, Dancenet, Crash Bang! Records, Hooj Choons
(UK),
MDS (Mushroom Records), Strictly Rhythm (USA), Cheeky Records (UK) and
Platipus Records (UK). Chris has also promoted for the likes of Ultra
Nate
and Faithless plus a host of interstate Djs such as Phil K (DMC
Melb), Mark
Dynamix (Syd) and Christian Barker (Syd).

On a more local scene, Chris is currently running the highly
acclaimed "Progression" nights which have resided at various clubs
throughout Brisbane over the past four years including The Tube and
The
Arena. Progression is Qld's only regular night dedicated to trance and
progressive house. Most recently, Progression enjoyed its most
successful
night in history as 1600 punters crammed in to see the Platipus Sound
System
perform live.

Chris' friendly nature, good ear for music and ability to harmonize
with the
crowd both on and off the decks, combined with his professionalism,
attention to detail, experience and industry knowledge make him one of
Brisbane's most highly regarded talents.

Chris' newly created, much-publicised website, www.christisdell.com is
launching soon. Moreover, Chris is the only Australian Dj and one of
only
four in the world to have his website featured on back-cover of the
2001 DMC
/ Technics World Catalogue (along with Paul Oakenfold). Sounds
impressive
indeed! Tune in to briz:b:e:a:t:s this Sunday from 12midday - 1pm to
catch
the latest set from DJ Chris Tisdell.
